Anchorage
This time of year is about many things for me. One of them is beginings. Here’s to them.
An Advent Calendar
Not exactly like the one I had when I was growing up, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless, an online Advent Calendar.
Sometimes Forwards are Funny
In my inbox this morning:
WHY MEN ARE NOT SECRETARIES
Husband’s note on the fridge to his wife: “Someone from the Guyna Colleges
called. They said the Pabst beer is
normal. I didn’t know you liked beer.”
Sigh. The worst part is, sometimes I’m that guy.
What I Don’t Like About Today
I wish I had written this.
The Today show bothers me. Most of the time, its really just glorified gossip and sensationalism, but I’ve never been able to put into words what about it really ticks me off. Kevin Guilfoile, Morning News contributor, did that for me. And quite nicely, I might add.
I know its an older editorial, I was browsing around, looking for another installment in The Morning News’ excellent “Recollections Based on the Album…” series when I found Mr. Guilfiole’s ed. Unfortunalty, there are only three parts to the series:
PJ Harvey’s To Bring You My Love by Claire Miccio
The Pixies Doolittle by Mena G. Trott
Tears for Fears’ Songs From the Big Chair by Joshua Allen
(Doolittle is my favorite.)

Success!
Testing again here. I think its all good.
Reinstallation
OK… testing one two.
I couldn’t get everything to work the way it was supposed to, and I couldn’t get the upgrade to work either, so I exported my entries and dumped the whole thing, and then reinstalled.
Oye. Here’s hoping this worked.
Funny Thing…
Apparently, when the little disclaimers on the new Christmas lights say not to string more than three strands together - they mean it. How do you like that?
We’ve blown six sets of lights in the past two days. We plug them all in, they all work, and then in a few hours one or more of them tank. Last night, I bought one of those fancy extension cords with three sets of outlets on it.
We’ll see how that works out.
In completely unrelated news: I think I’ve worked out most of the kinks around here… but there are a few issues here and there… particularly in the archives. But we’ll see how it goes.
I Switched.
No, not like that. I replaced one poor PDA with my new Palm Pilot - the m500. Hello friend.
Last spring, my company bought a couple RIM’s and I got one of them, forsaking my Palm Pilot for this new wirelessness that promised so much more. And I remember thinking that I’d really like the keyboard, too.
I was wrong. So wrong.
While I did really like the wireless connectivity (and the fact that someone else was paying for it), I did not like the size, the keyboard, the more combersome interface with my PC. It was bulky. It ran out of batteries every other day. It was hard to type on, and diffucult to just whip out in a flash and fire off a note on.
So I went back to my faithful old Palm, the IIIe. But time and neglect had taken their toll, and the damn thing refused to work. Then I saw the ads for the m500, and the prices, and all was right with the world again. Seriously, if you are in the market for a PDA, get one of these.
Live on Letterman
The other day at Lots of Co. there was some discussion about an early REM song, and the first live performance of said song (when it was so new it didn’t have a title).
Upgrade Anyone?
Mostly just a test here… I think I have sccessfully completed the upgrade to Moveable Type 2.5, but I’m not sure…
UPDATE
Well, the upgrade seemed to work, but I still can’t seem to get the archives functioning properly. Or, at least, not the way I want them to function.
upper
Having a bad day? Need a lift, but can’t afford drugs, therapy or other creature comforts? Try this.
In the end, it may not actually make you feel better, but it is worth a grin.
Hot Damn!
I won a free copy of November’s Monthly Mix from Jeans and a T-Shirt. Check em out. The mixes are very good, and are nicely diverse. I highly recommend it.
