Not Just a Gator-Hater Anymore

It looks like I have to hate South Caroline football, too. Spurrier took over there officially today.

US Soccer vs. Jamaica Tonite

without comments

The US Men’s National Team meets Jamaica in tonite’s match. The US won the first match 6-0 in October, and should have another convincing performance this evening, at least in terms of another win.

The journey to World Cup 2006 has begun; and the US will have some significant challenges ahead. The team must defend as well as they attack, and must really come into their own as a convincing unit. We have talent, yes; we have some of the best goalkeepers in the world, et; but we have always had great difficutly in really performing well as a team and living up to potential.

Now, the 2002 Cup saw a new face for the MNT; they were convincing, they were aggressive and they played a tremendous tourney before being knocked out. Our International follow-up, the 2004 Olympics, was a dismal failure as the team failed to qualify. (And yes, I know that it was a different team of U-24 players, thankyouverymuch, but you get my drift - the US is not a steady powerhouse in the beautiful game.)

At any rate - 7:30 ET time tonite on ESPN2. Or watch it online at US Soccer’s MatchTracker.

Update:
The US team advances with a 1-1 tie, and preserves their unbeaten streak (13 games, a national record). Jamaica does not advance.

Desperate Monday Night Football

without comments

I didn’t see the game, but I have heard the hype about the opener, a joint venture between Terrell Owens and ABC. I think FCC chair Michael Powell needs to take a cold shower and calm down. And get someone else to write his remarks for him (”What would
Walt Disney think?” c’mon!).

My favorite part is this bit from the NFL:

The NFL called the saucy intro “inappropriate and unsuitable for our Monday Night Football audience.”

I don’t think there is really any need to respond that particular quote.

As for the “situation” as a whole - if it bothers you, turn off the television. If you children see it and ask questions, turn it off and answer them honestly. The world is a big, messly place, people - it is far better to learn to deal with it than to run crying to the FCC, your mom, or whomever you usually run crying to.

Bush confronted with intelligence crisis as senior CIA officials resign. I didn’t even read the article, nor do I intend to… the title is enough for me.

Back from the Dead

Or thereabouts…

I keep thinking that one day I will get back with regular posts, and will really get into the swing of things, but then never do. Perhaps I need to accept that I’m not going to be one of those guys with a ton of posts and all that.

Perhaps I should just not worry about it at all and just get back to writing a bit each day.

Perhaps I will.
