US Soccer vs. Jamaica Tonite

without comments

The US Men’s National Team meets Jamaica in tonite’s match. The US won the first match 6-0 in October, and should have another convincing performance this evening, at least in terms of another win.

The journey to World Cup 2006 has begun; and the US will have some significant challenges ahead. The team must defend as well as they attack, and must really come into their own as a convincing unit. We have talent, yes; we have some of the best goalkeepers in the world, et; but we have always had great difficutly in really performing well as a team and living up to potential.

Now, the 2002 Cup saw a new face for the MNT; they were convincing, they were aggressive and they played a tremendous tourney before being knocked out. Our International follow-up, the 2004 Olympics, was a dismal failure as the team failed to qualify. (And yes, I know that it was a different team of U-24 players, thankyouverymuch, but you get my drift - the US is not a steady powerhouse in the beautiful game.)

At any rate - 7:30 ET time tonite on ESPN2. Or watch it online at US Soccer’s MatchTracker.

Update:
The US team advances with a 1-1 tie, and preserves their unbeaten streak (13 games, a national record). Jamaica does not advance.
