I live in Birmingham, Alabama with my wife and children. And our pets. We work, we play, we try to stay the relaxed, fun-loving and fun-to-be-with people we think we were in college. We hope we do a good job raising the kids. All three of them.

I started this site for a number of reasons, almost none of which I remember or are important. But I like it. I think I need the help remembering things, and it serves as a pretty good soapbox when I want one. It remains a work in progress.

But what is this site? Let me point you to a couple of good resources that might help with that¹.

And why do I have it? Like I said, I like it.  Maybe one day, the kids will read it and laugh.  At any rate, as far as I am concerned I’m not sure its worth worrying about: I like to talk, and this way no one has to listen.

Given that there have been multiple versions of the site², it is not unusual that there would also be multiple “About” pages. I’ve lost the very first one³, but here are the others, in chronological order: About Bruised Orange, a short directional note on Speedingmotorcycle and About Speedingmotorcycle. I guess I can now add this page to the list, too. How meta of me⁴.

I am now using a third official content management system⁵, the third host⁶ and at least the third name⁷; I am very happy with the CMS and the name, so hopefully this’ll stick.

(this is) durkin.org is powered by WordPress, a modified version of Brian Gardner’s Whitespace theme⁸ and various plugins and whatnot.  It is hosted by 1&1.
